Board your transatlantic flight to Rome, Italy.

Day 2. Tuesday, October 7: Rome

Upon arrival, enjoy a panoramic view of the Coliseum and the Roman Forum from the motorcoach. Visit the St. Josaphat Monastery of the Fathers of St. Basil on Via Santa Prisca where Fr. Iannuzzi lived for 10 years. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour including the famous Roman Aventine keyhole through which one can view St. Peter’s Basilica cupola (dome), orange grove, view of rose garden, Circus Maximus and the Palatine Hills (where many early Christians were martyred, and the film location of Ben Hur). Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner with your fellow travelers at your hotel in Rome. (WD)

Day 3. Wednesday, October 8: Rome

Begin the day with a visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Your sightseeing in the afternoon includes the Catacombs of St. Sebastian and the Basilica of St. Mary Major that houses two of Christianity’s greatest treasures: the Manger from Bethlehem in which the Baby Jesus was laid following His birth, and a painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, “The Salvation of the Roman People” painted by St. Luke. The basilica was built on the site where a miraculous snowfall occurred in August of 356. Then, transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (BB, D)

Day 4. Thursday, October 9: Rome

Today, visit the Pontifical Gregorian University where Fr. Iannuzzi completed his doctorate in Luisa Piccarreta’s writings. Afterwards, enjoy a walking tour of Rome’s downtown. See the famous Spanish Steps and the Piazza Navona, a popular gathering place with spectacular fountains where the Church of St. Agnes was built on the site of her martyrdom. Admire the famous Bernini Fountains at the Piazza.  Continue to the Church of St. Maria Sopra Minerva, a magnificent Gothic church that houses the relics of St. Catherine of Siena. Finally, visit the Pantheon, the best-preserved monument from ancient Rome, thanks to its transformation into a church in 609. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Rome. (BB, D)

Day 5. Friday, October 10: Rome

This morning, enjoy a tour of the magnificent Basilica of St. Peter, the world’s largest church, and the center of Christianity. This was the site where St. Peter, the chief apostle, was buried in 64 AD. During the tour, visit the crypt at St. Peter’s Basilica and render homage to the many popes and saints entombed in this site, including the incorrupt body of St. Pope John XXIII. Next, visit St. Paul Outside the Walls, one of the four major basilicas of Rome, originally founded by Emperor Constantine to house the apostle’s remains. Afterwards, visit Tre Fontane Abbey, and finally, San Pietro in Vincoli to pray before the chains that bound St. Peter in the prisons of Jerusalem. See Michelangelo’s Moses which dates from 1515, the most notable piece of artwork in this basilica. Following this visit, return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (BB, D)

Day 6. Sunday, October 11: Rome – Lanciano

After breakfast, journey to Lanciano, a small medieval town, nestled in a way from the coast of the Adriatic Sea. In the 8th century AD, in the little church of St. Legontian, a Basilian monk was having doubts about the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. During Mass, after the two-fold consecration, the Host was changed into live Flesh, and the wine was changed into live Blood. The Host-Flesh can still be seen today. Enjoy a walking tour and pray before this Miracle of the Heart of Jesus. Transfer to your hotel near Lanciano for dinner and overnight. (BB, D)

Day 7. Sunday, October 12: Lanciano – San Giovanni Rotondo

Today will be a day of many graces! Travel to San Giovanni Rotondo to pray before the incorrupt body of St. Padre Pio. Visit the old church (Our Lady of Grace) and pray before the crucifix from which he received the stigmata in 1918. This morning, make a quick visit to the Church of Santa Maria Greca to pray before Luisa Piccarreta’s mortal remains, known for working miracles. Then depart on your journey towards Rome. As you leave Corato, from a distance, see the Torre Disperata, where Luisa began a new life in the Divine Will after her three-year battle with demons. Stop for lunch and then visit Pietrelcina, the birthplace of St. Padre Pio (1887-1968). Dinner and overnight in Rome. (BB, L, D)
