TRIP SYNOPSIS


Join Fr. Daniel Heenan, FSSP on this beautiful 9-day pilgrimage to South America with visits to Our Lady of Good Success in Quito, Ecuador and to Our Lady of Lujan in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Spend two days and three nights in Quito, Ecuador visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Success and many other important sites around the city. Continue on to Buenos Aires to spend several days there before the walking pilgrimage. As the main event, participate in the 3-day, 100 KM walking pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Lujan organized by the NSC Nuestra Senora de la Cristiandad. Pilgrims will spend three days camping and walking their way from the town of Rawson towards the shrine. (See the daily Itinerary section below for information on the level of difficulty of the walking portion.) The intention for the pilgrimage is for the restoration of the rights of the Traditional Latin Mass.

As an optional add-on, before the group leaves Mexico City for Quito, arrive several days early to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and to learn about the Catholic history of Mexico while visiting the Cathedral and the historic city center.

ITINERARY


Add-on Pre Day 1. Friday, October 4: Flight to Mexico City

Add-On: Upon your arrival into Mexico City, take the private transportation from the airport to your hotel. Tonight, meet your pre-trip travel companions at dinner. (D) 

Add-on Pre Day 2. Saturday, October 5: Mexico City

Add-On: This morning after breakfast, visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in 1531 and asked for a chapel to be built on that site. It is visited by more than 12 million pilgrims a year. Pray before the famous Tilma of St. Juan Diego, where Our Lady of Guadalupe’s image is miraculously imprinted. Then, enjoy a walking tour of Mexico City’s downtown that includes the Cathedral, the Aztecs’ main temple, and the Government Palace. Dinner and overnight in Mexico City. (BB, L, D)

Day 1. Sunday, October 6: Fly from Mexico City (MEX) to Quito, Ecuador (UIO)

After your arrival in Quito, transfer to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day on your own and then join your fellow pilgrims for a welcome dinner and overnight in Quito. (WD) 

Day 2. Monday, October 7: Quito

Today your sightseeing includes possible visits to:

  • San Augustin Museum

  • San Antonio Ibarra (The Artisan City)

Today your sightseeing includes visits to Catholic sites around the city. Enjoy dinner and overnight in Buenos Aires.

Day 6. Friday, October 11: Walking Pilgrimage

This morning, transfer to Rawson and begin the walk towards the Basilica of Our Lady of Lujan.

Day 8. Sunday, October 13: Walking Pilgrimage - Lujan - Buenos Aires

This morning, walk your way towards the Basilica of Our Lady of Lujan.

(Please note that the level of difficulty for the walking and camping portion of this trip is high. For those who cannot complete 100 KM of walking, buses will be on hand to transport pilgrims to the shrine. Many people decide to use the buses in this manner.)

The intention for the pilgrimage is for the restoration of the rights of the Traditional Latin Mass.

Arrive at your destination and attend a Mass of thanksgiving.

Transfer to your hotel near the airport in the evening.

Farewell dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 9. Monday, October 14: Buenos Aires - Homebound Flight

This morning, transfer to and depart from Buenos Aires airport (EZE) back to Mexico City (MEX).

CHAPLAIN

Father Daniel Heenan FSSP

Father is a graduate in philosophy and history of Christendom College in 2005. He worked as a middle school teacher in Northern Virginia. He studied for a master's degree in history at Catholic University in Washington DC and then at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Nebraska FSSP. Since his ordination to the priesthood in 2014, he was Vicar of St. Peter in Chains Quasi-parish in Guadalajara, Jalisco, until 2017 when he was appointed Pastor. Fr. Heenan is the founder of the St. Francis Xavier Missionary Journey and the St. Junipero Serra Spanish Institute.

TRIP PACE


 

The pace for this pilgrimage is moderate. There is daily walking and standing. Pilgrims must be in active enough condition to walk 3-4 hours and stand for 2-3 hours per day. We strongly recommend preparing oneself by walking before the trip, building up to at least 2-3 miles per day.

Sometimes walking is up or down slopes, and at times sidewalks and terrain will be uneven. Pilgrims must have full mobility and be able to climb several stairs, since many of the visited places have no other access. A certain pace must be kept by all pilgrims in order to cover the scheduled sightseeing.

 PRICING INFORMATION


  • 9-day Land-only, Ecuador and Argentina pilgrimage price in double occupancy: $1,995 per person

  • 2-day Land-only, Mexico City add-on price in double occupancy: $450 per person

  • 9-day with air from and to Mexico City (MEX) in double occupancy: $3,990

  • Single Supplement: For individuals wanting a single bedroom, the supplement is $547.

  • Deposit: Non-refundable initial deposit of $250 pp is due by May 12, 2024 (last day to register)

  • Balance due by: June 12, 2024

Important notes:  Some destinations fill quickly before the listed final registration deadline. We recommend that you promptly register in order to ensure your place in line.  Before the registration deadline, you may cancel within 15 days of your initial deposit for a full refund.  Copies of passports are required no more than 60 days before departure but registration can be completed without passport information.
