location for the calling of the disciples and the feeding of
the 5000, visit the
Church of the Fish and the
Loaves. Also visit the
Chapel of the Primacy
where three times St. Peter professed his devotion to

|
Day 7:
Antioch
– Tarsus
After docking in the Turkish port of
Iskenderun,
travel to Antioch. Ancient Antioch was the center of
Hellenistic civilization in the region. Christian roots go
deep into Antioch's soil. It was to Antioch that many
Jerusalem Christians fled after the death of the first martyr,
St. Stephen. St. Paul and St. Barnabas stayed in Antioch for a
year and evangelized many. Later, the city became the starting
and ending point for the first missionary journey from which
St. Paul performed his missionary labors. It was in Antioch
that the disciples were first called "Christians", and it was
here that the first non-Jews were accepted into the early
Church. From Antioch, continue on to Tarsus, the birthplace of
St. Paul, a city with a resplendent history which reaches back
to the 14th century B.C. St. Paul visited Tarsus twice during
his missionary journeys. Re-board the Orient Queen from the
port of Mersin, Turkey. |

|
Day 8:
Antalya
– Aspendos – Perga
This morning, dock in the Turkish port of
Antalya.
Travel by bus to the
Aspendos
theater, known for its outstanding acoustics. The extremely
well preserved theater may be the best preserved in the
ancient world. Nearby is
Perga, a Hellenistic city where St. Paul and St.
Barnabas preached. Pass through the same city gates as did St.
Paul and St. Barnabas when they visited here on their first
journey. The ruins of a large stadium, baths, and a tomb give
ample evidence of its former greatness. Return to Antalya from
where St. Paul sailed to Antioch at the completion of the
first missionary journey. |
| |
|
|
 |
|
Day 9:
Ephesus
Journey to
Ephesus,
the marble city where St. Paul spent three years of his
ministry. It was to this community that St. Paul wrote his
epistle to the Ephesians. The ruins of
Ephesus
have been restored much like the city was in
St. Paul's
time. Visit the House of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Also visit
the ancient
Agora, the library of Celsus and enter the Great
Theater mentioned in the book of Acts. |
