2009 - 2010 Year for Priests
In honor of the 150th anniversary of St. John
Vianney's death, Pope Benedict XVI has declared
a year of the priest, running from the feast of the Sacred Heart
2009 to June 19, 2010.
St. John Vianney (May 8, 1786 - August 4,
1859) is the patron saint of parish priests. He is often referred to
as the "Curé of Ars", Ars being the small French town where
he was parish priest for 40 years. He is a model of charity,
mortification, and persevering apostolate, mainly through the
sacrament of confession.
